Beaudil Elzenga, former Piket Art Prizes nominee (Dramatic Arts), plays the leading role in the short film Flashback, which was premiered at the Northern Film Festival in Leeuwarden on 8 November. The Piket Art Prizes awards ceremony will take place on Monday 26 November at the Theater aan het Spui in The Hague. On that occasion Beaudil will perform Edgar Allen Poe’s poem Little Raven as a monologue. “A beautiful, dark poem about lost love.”
“Flashback is a thriller/action movie lasting seven minutes”, Elzenga explains. “I’m playing a girl, whose date has told her he likes a bit of excitement. She takes him to a deserted warehouse and ties him up. Flashback is a film about a fatal date.” The film can be watched online for two more weeks. This short film was created by director and producer Sjoerd de Bont. The short film won the audience prize for best film and ended up in the top three of best films. Elzenga was also nominated in the category ‘best actress’, but did not win the title.
2018 has been a fine year for the The Hague actress, who was nominated for the Zilveren Televizier-Ster for her part in the Dutch ‘national soap’ Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden (For better or for worse). She received a lot of praise for her character Loes de Haan. “It was really great. I didn’t win, but just the nomination was a tremendous honour for me.” The Televizier-Ring has been awarded since 1964. Since 1975 the Televizier Ring awards have been created by Anneke Schat, the artist who also made the awards for the Piket Art Prizes in 2016.
Beaudil has several other plans for 2019. “In February I’ll start rehearsing for a short opera. The working title is Ariadne”, she tells us. “It’s the project of a direction student at the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam. Performances will start in March. The venues are still to be announced.” In addition, Elzenga will present her own performance during the Café Theater Festival in Utrecht on 7, 8 and 9 March 2019.
